Paint

Wow - so after about 2 years of nuthin... 2 years?... thats right 2 years of my canvases and paint sitting in various closets, attics, and now garages... I put palette knife to paint and slopped some color on a beautiful white canvas...

It was magical. I fell back in love. Three hours of Mule Variations and painting and I felt reborn - or at least relaxed and excited about doing more. I got a good start on something - I had a palette in mind, but just kinda went for the underpaint with no particular composition goal - but the expression felt damn good - following the urges, the tweaks, something so nice about the tangibility. Its in line with some of the stuff I did years ago - but definitely different - maybe better - we'll see - I got a ton of paint down in my session - and think I know where its going. Gotta move fast tho - try to wrap her on up soon - so she doesn't linger...

Picture isn't a great one - and nobody said expression had to be pretty - but so far so good - far as I can see... MAKE ART! (like that Scottish lad from Once, once said...)

Inner-Exo-Skeletal-Protrusion

That baby got a tooth! Thats right - after a very long and tiring week of poor sleep - bubbs popped her very first tooth. So obviously I knocked it out and put it under her pillow - college is expensive... No but seriously folks, it's just barely poking out. Those bites on the nose (or nibbles) may not be so cute going forward...

"HahahahAhahahA how cuuuute, she sucking on my no....AAARGH!! WTF?! I'm hemmoraging!!! Somebuddy call the dogger!!!" (stuff like that).

Sea Wolf - Leaves in the River

Source Credit: BT & Miguel

This is an old one - meaning last few months - but its a good'n. Apparently BT told me about this dude, like way back - once agian hes a few steps ahead of the hip game... Sea Wolf is mellow, folky, and rocky at times. Smoove buttery voice, and smoove buttery geetar licks. "oh gypsy woman spoke to me, lip stained red from a bottle of wine" good stuff - nice sound scapes - mostly up-tempo for folk rock - not so depressing as say ur everyday bright eyes emo stuff. I've had it for a while but dag - I'm still rockin it daily.

My Latest Novel - Wolves

So credit the Miguel with another winner - he sent me a list of 10 or so - all interesting at least and great at best. This one happened to hit me in the right place at the right time. Its scottish, folky, rocky, orchestral...etc. These folks are mostly quiet, but beautiful. And goddam you gotta love that scottish accent - thinking we'll move there just so the little bubbs will grow that cute accents to go with her sweet red hair... anyways - check it out.

Favorite Tracks: The Hope Edition, When We Were Wolves

Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago

Source Credit: BT

OK - so again Bon Iver just happened to be the right sound for the right time. This one is mellow, quiet, and very moody. Slow, quiet, gliding sounds. Lots of layered/echo'd vocals over hazy soundscapes, for some reason, feels really isolated, like he hid himself away in a cabin in the middle of winter, alone... wait - thats what he did...

Favorite Tracks: Flume, Lump Sum, Wisconsin

Thao - We Brave Bee Stings And All

It just FEELS GOOD. Lovin this one right now - like Cat Power on strong anti-depressents, maybe if Cat Power and Feist's happy stuff had a bastard lovechild who grew up with gypsies, or maybe a banjo totin bluegrass band... Good stuff. Turns out she's also cool. Her back-up band is called 'The Get Down Stay Down' - hard to beat that... She's from SF - so thats a win... Here's her lil YouTube interview...

Favorite Tracks: Bag of Hammers, Travel

Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals

OK this is a different one. Nice little change up. Somewhere this was described as 'world music with an indi twist' - agreed. Lots of interesting sounds from all over - african riddims, paul simon-esque - gracelandy sounds, real nice mix - maybe a little old Peter Gabriel in some songs - vocals are odd maybe even awkward but I can dig it...
